WHAT OUR FAMILIES HAVE TO SAY ABOUT TPH ACADEMY:

"Our experience with TPH has been nothing but amazing, and we are happy to come back next year.

Christian was the youngest and less experienced of the group. In August 2023, he wasn’t even part of a travel team. A couple of months passed, and we began to see a great improvement in his development. Shortly after, he received an offer to be part of a travel team. He joined Florida Fury, and they made it to the state finals when nobody expected it.

We are now constantly receiving invitations to play with different tournament teams, and we continue to see great improvement in his hockey player development and excellent grades in his academic performance."

"[This past year] has been the most beneficial and successful year of [my daughter's] academic career and I could not recommend TPH more highly.

Aurora plays AAA hockey with Team Colorado, and our lives certainly rotate around the sport. However, hockey was actually not our first reason for choosing TPH.

Our top priorities are listed below, in order of priority:

  • A healthy and fun school environment
  • Rigorous and engaging academics
  • Improvement in hockey skills and knowledge

TPH was a home run in all three categories. We love it.

Tough, hockey-playing girls in public school sometimes find a challenging fit... And a miserable learning environment leads to kids that hate school. The inevitable result of this is not learning overall and losing confidence. This was our situation when we began with TPH, but I was thrilled to see the most dramatic turn-around I could imagine, starting from day 1 at TPH.

The learning environment is custom-built for competitive athletes. It drives them and keeps them active. She was surrounded by kids like her, dedicated to hockey and uninterested in the common dangers of middle/high school like drugs or bullying. She immediately had a school full of best friends, fun and supportive staff, and she couldn't keep the smile off her face. She loves to go to school every day.

The hybrid learning environment was a concern for us before we started at TPH. However, I'm pleased to report that this was also highly successful. She gets to take challenging classes with support from both online teachers and on-site teachers. The classes are completely flexible, so she never falls behind with her frequent hockey travel. Furthermore, she has become so much more self-sufficient and responsible in pursuit of her own studies. This success has given her confidence in her own academic ability and that has driven her to always strive to be better. She's become a straight A student, and for the naysayers that think this is only because it's online school, I'm also happy to report her state-wide standardized testing scores jumped from slightly above average (62nd percentile) to exceptional (96th percentile).

The on-ice and weight room training is simply outstanding. She's gotten stronger, faster, and smarter on the ice. Early on we saw her speed and stick handling improve, but by mid-season it really started to come together and we saw real strides in her game. We're excited to see this trend continue and see where the game will take her.

Ultimately, TPH Denver has been a great experience for our family, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to others with values similar to ours."

BRIAN H. | TPH ACADEMY DENVER PARENT

"I highly recommend the TPH Academy model for individuals who value flexibility. The ability to learn and complete schoolwork from any location is invaluable. Moreover, I believe it effectively prepares students for college, given its resemblance to higher education formats, providing a distinct advantage.

TPH Academy has had a profound impact on my student-athlete, shaping his academic and athletic journey. Under the guidance of his success coach, he has achieved consistently high grades (A’s and B’s). Additionally, his Individualized Development Plan (IDP) coach has played a pivotal role in his development. Through hard work, discipline, and effective coaching, my son progressed from A to AA, and finally to AAA over the two years we have been in the program.

TPH Academy aligns seamlessly with our family's needs due to its flexible schedule and learning format. My son eagerly looks forward to attending school, only missing days for travel or illness. He excels in this learning environment, thriving at his own pace and requiring minimal oversight in 8th grade. This autonomy serves as a motivating factor for him to continue excelling, a sentiment we appreciate as a family.

TPH proves to be the ideal solution for my student-athlete as he begins his day engaging in his passion for skating. Then, he jumps into his schoolwork, transitioning to "turf time" to release energy, before resuming the learning process. This school is a haven for highly motivated and self-disciplined children.

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at TPH Academy, including the administration team, hockey coaches, IDP coaches, and academic success coaches. Their collective efforts have not only contributed to my son's growth as an athlete but also as an exceptional individual who excels in competitive environments and consistently strives for greatness."

"I'm a hockey mom with a 14-year-old freshman son- an ice hockey athlete in his first year at TPH Academy Nashville. This is our 1st year with TPH after a cross-country move, changing states and hockey teams. Hudson has been in online schooling prior to TPH (while playing on AA and AAA teams) and understands the inherent flexibility for practice and tournaments vs. academics.

At TPH, we have been impressed with the integrated on and off-ice training schedules which blend directly into school. The Ford Bellevue rink and association with the Nashville Predators organization are impressive. Many of the athletes and coaches are directly involved with the Jr. Predators hockey teams. This cohesiveness continues to provide the flexibility while pursuing his passion and ensuring Hudson can successfully challenge the rigors of high school academics.

TPH resources on-site and on-line enables Hudson to do coursework and tests around hockey training and to work ahead when preparing for travel and tournaments that require time away from school (which was always a challenge in a "brick and mortar" school). TPH's on-line technology and infrastructure are easy to follow and use allowing Hudson to study math, science, history, and biology at advanced levels. And, if there are questions or issues, it's easy to get on-line or in-person support.

School administrators, teachers, and classmates are fully aligned and supportive with the rigours of this hockey journey and the great personal relationships and integrity at the staff level and among the community of parents and athletes rewarding."

KAREN L. | TPH ACADEMY NASHVILLE PARENT

"My son is a 13-year-old 7th grader who plays hockey and attends TPH. This is his first year at TPH Academy after attending another sports academy for 2 years.

TPH Academy has been an incredible fit for our son for many reasons. The vigorous travel demands of a AAA hockey schedule make the traditional school setting quite challenging. His team had the privilege of attending the Pee Wee Quebec tournament this year which entailed being in Canada for two full school weeks. The structure of TPH Academy allowed him to work ahead in his academics in the weeks leading up to the travel time so that he could fully focus on all of the tournament games and experiences surrounding this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Many of his teammates struggled with balancing their school demands and were unable to fully enjoy the same experience as the traditional school setting does not accommodate self-paced progression. Thus for a travel-sports athlete, TPH Academy is ideal.

In addition, after the pandemic, our family realized the traditional school structure was a lot of waisted time and our son thrived in an environment where he could grind away at academics at his own pace leaving time for fun and spending time doing the things he loves. This flexible academic structure is priceless to our family.

TPH Academy utilizes an online platform, Edmonton, which we were new to and hesitant to switch over to as he had been utilizing another platform for the previous 2 years. This platform has been wonderful in many ways. Each class has an online teacher who is available for lessons and assistance whenever needed. In addition, there are multiple resources where the students can learn. There has never been a time where our son has struggled to learn something and been unable to find a resource to assist with learning. This model is quite different from the traditional learning model, but for our son, it has been far better than having to sit in a classroom for 7 hours with one teacher lecturing. It does take self discipline and independent learning as you do not have someone holding your hand and guiding you like you would in a traditional school. After a short learning curve, it has been a huge success.

College is extremely important to our family and paving the way to a successful college entrance is incredibly important. We recognize the importance of not just having good grades but also participation in extra-curricular activities/clubs/volunteer work for college entrance. We brought these concerns to the Academy and they responded shortly thereafter with the development of multiple clubs the students could participate in that not only broadened their academic experience but are also enabling them with life skills they will need upon graduation regardless of college. We have been extremely grateful for this response and openness to expanding the academy with immediate action!

Aside from the academics, the sports/physical activity that TPH Academy provides is tremendously valuable. We are fortunate to be a part of the Jr Preds organization and these highly trained/experienced coaches are also working with the athletes 3-4 days/week both on and off the ice at the Academy. This additional/supplemental training to their normal practice schedule is invaluable in creating a stronger more advanced athlete. At the same time, the Academy recognizes the importance of not overworking the athletes, therefore they offer active recovery days every Monday alternating between yoga and swimming. As a doctor of physical therapy, I am incredibly grateful for the coaching staff to recognize the importance of recovery to prevent overuse injuries. They balance training and rest to ensure the athletes safety.

In summary, our family is extremely honored to be a part of TPH Academy. The coaches, administration, teaching support staff, and volunteers have all made this transition incredibly smooth. Our son is excelling both academically and socially in this environment. We are grateful and look forward to seeing him grow at the Academy in the next few years paving his way to a successful college experience."

LAUREN S. | TPH ACADEMY NASHVILLE PARENT

"Given the non-traditional school schedule, TPH Academy allows us to be more flexible as a family, and not just hockey-related, either—the flexibility the program allows us to plan better. The academic side of it is one thing, but the athletic side is where the money fits the bill. If you have an athlete who’s seeking post-secondary or junior-level play, this model is a great way to introduce the work-life schedule and time management.

When my son decided he wanted to play full-time hockey and be a full-time student, we knew we had to figure out a way to create that environment for him. When we met with Coach Brad and Coach Montgomery at our shadow day, we knew this would be a perfect fit for him. Starting middle school can be fun yet scary, too. To see where he started at being a quiet shy kid to now he’s outgoing, wants to support his friends, and wants to be out on the ice as much as possible. It’s like night and day the difference in just a short bit of time. When I tell you, you see the difference in the impact he’s had, and being one of the youngest ones in his school, you can truly see the investment of being a student-athlete. He used not talk about school at all, we would have to get it out of him. Now he talks about school, the laughs, the mentorship he receives, etc. This program is definitely helped my son in such a short time frame!

The scheduling is quite flexible and it allows him the opportunity to get ahead as much as he can. The opportunity to be able to go to a tournament or leave early on Friday helps us out drastically! He has all his school work online and that flexibility allows us to take his school on the road should we need to. It allows him to communicate and develop that relationship with his teammates more.

Coach Brad and Coach Monty are absolutely hands down the best hockey coaches there is! I know I am bias 😃 but they truly have made an impact on Caleb’s life both personally and athletically. Their experiences allow them to assist him to get better and their contagious coaching allows them to have fun and be serious at the same time. Mrs. Sunsea, Mrs. Karen, Mrs. Olsen and Coach Eric have all done a fantastic job mentoring these kids, coaching them in the right direction. Their encouragement of Caleb has truly been such an impact on him academically. We were scared to death our first semester and wondering if we made the right decision. Mrs. Sunsea kept encouraging me to tell me that he will be fine, and she was right! I love this academy and everything about it. I wouldn’t change anything about it! IF you’re looking for a fun, exciting, and challenging environment for your child I highly recommend TPH Academy! It’s probably one of the best decisions I ever made for Caleb, and we’re looking forward to many years here!

If you’re even the slightest thinking about it, do the shadow day and see for yourself. Let your student athlete experience it and become elite on their own! I promise you won’t regret it."
